High yield varieties (HYVs) have dominated the monoculture paddy agro landscape in order to meet the ever growing demand of rice. Despite more than enough rice produce (to meet the global demand) with HYVs, there seems to be a yearning to invent even higher yield rice varieties, a continuation of the unsustainable industrial scale of rice farming. YIELD remains the factor that dictates the rice farmers’ lives.
